Tottenham handed transfer boost as chief snubs Marseille
Spurs' chief scout, Steve Hitchin has rebuffed the chance to become Marseille's Director of Football for north London stay
Tottenham star-spotter Steve Hitchen has turned down the chance to move to Marseille as Director of Football.
But the highly-rated Spurs Chief Scout and head of recruitment is still on the radar of Manchester United and several Premier League club's – with Mauricio Pochettino desperate to keep him.
I understand the Tottenham boss persuaded Salford-born Hitchen to turn down Marseille's approach when the French club made contact last week.
Unlike last year when Tottenham didn't sign anyone ahead of the season, this time they're planning a summer of transfer activity and Pochettino wants Hitchen pulling the strings.
And he'll fight hard to resist any Old Trafford move to steal Hitchin who is seen as a vital cog in the Spurs management and technical set up.
Hitchin was involved in signing Luis Suarez during his time working under Damien Comolli at Liverpool and is in his second spell at Spurs after previously working under Harry Redknapp before spells at Derby and QPR.
Spurs chairman, Daniel Levy, has a close working relationship with Hitchen, who has recruited Lucas Moura, Davinson Sanchez, Fernando Llorente and Juan Foyth since re-joining the club.
